Citizens recognised at awards ceremony
The great and good of Chichester gathered at the cathedral last week as esteemed civic and community awards were handed out to deserving members of the community.
Civic, community and young citizen awards were handed out on Tuesday, March 1, to celebrate the city’s citizens who have gone above and beyond in their work.
The prestigious ceremony was opened by mayor John Hughes and mayoress Cherry Hughes before prayers were said by the mayor’s chaplain, the Reverend Canon David Nason.
Two years of awards were handed out due to a year missed in the pandemic.
Recipients of the 2020 Civic awards included:

Cllr Debbie Carter read the citation for Chichester Area Talking News, which produces audio versions of local news for the blind and visually impaired.
Cllr Carter, who is visually impaired herself, described the service as ‘a lifeenhancing experience’.

Mrs Joyce Loten Mr Martin Tucker Mr Tucker, who is secretary for Whyke Utd Football Club, said in his speech: “There’s a lot of people that help make the club work – I’m so humbled to win this award because all I have done is be involved in football.”
The young citizen award went to Miss Kyra Kemp.
One community award was handed out for 2021, to Transition Chichester.
