County’s wellbeing service is renewed
West Sussex’s established wellbeing service has been renewed for another five years with plans to offer even more programmes.
Since its inception in 2011 it has helped more than 60,000 adults countywide.
The service is delivered through partnership between West Sussex County Council and the seven district and borough councils.
It offers impartial and friendly advice and support on a one to one basis through groups and activities which help people make positive choices to tackle risk factors such as excess weight, sedentary behaviour, smoking and drinking too much alcohol.
Others have benefitted from West Sussex Wellbeing programmes on broader localised support for everything from improving
their cooking skills, reducing the risk of falls and support to people in their own workplaces.
These can have emotional and mental health benefits as well as physical ones and can also improve the finances of those on low incomes.
Bob Lanzer, cabinet member for public health and wellbeing, said: “The West Sussex Wellbeing service has been instrumental in helping thousands of people live healthy and fulfilled lives. It has helped reduce inequality and provided support for people who otherwise might have suffered in silence.
“Whether it has been helping someone make significant lifestyle changes or simply offering useful advice that helps people achieve their goals, West Sussex Wellbeing has improved the lives of so many across the county.”
The programme has just been renewed for a further five years with plans to offer more programmes than ever through supporting workplaces, offering the NHS Health Check programme and understanding how they can respond to the challenges of long Covid that are faced by many in our communities.
