Get behind city’s wonderful Pride event

- Proper local radio from Chichester with Milly Luxford

Iwas somewhat saddened to see that, a few weeks ago, Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway received more than 50 complaints. Why? Because they dressed up in drag! The Geordie duo donned some very high heels, fabulous wigs and stunning sparkly dresses and then proceeded to perform on stage with three other professional drag queens.

Personally, I thought they looked incredible – even if it did remind me that I desperately need to up my make-up game!

I wonder, did people make such complaints when Danny La Rue, Lily Savage or Dame Edna Everage were at the peak of their careers? Maybe, but surely decades later we should be past such negative views and embrace others in all their unique glory. After all, absolutely no harm is being caused.

Recently, I met with some of the team putting together Chichester’s first ever Pride event, including the lovely Dawn Gracie. This event is happening on May

28 at Chichester College and the aim is simply to promote diversity, inclusivity, individuality, respect and unity of all communities within the city of Chichester and frankly I, for one, cannot wait.

The family friendly event will feature incredible drag performances on stage, Drag Queen Story Hour UK for the youngsters and a visit from London’s Gay Men’s Chorus – and that’s just for starters.

To keep up to date with the team’s progress, get your tickets or volunteer your services, all the details can be found at chichesterpride.co.uk

Let us please get behind this wonderful event and help make it the huge success it deserves to be!

Now, in other news – ladies, lend me your ears. Once again at V2 Radio we are asking you to have a little spring clean of your underwear draw and dig out any bras that you no longer have any use for – be it they do not fit or have simply seen slightly better days. We want them!

By bringing us your over the shoulder boulder holders you will be helping to raise vital funds for breast cancer research, as well as supporting small businesses in developing countries.

To find out where your nearest bra donation station is please head to v2radio. co.uk to find out – and many thanks in advance.
