Bryan Gartside – writing as Bryan Roy – is in print with Nephilim (when giants roamed the earth), published by New Generation at £10.99.

Bryan, aged 67, said: “It’s a subject that will have wide appeal to people who are interested in conspiracy theories and alternative historical accounts. It’s a subject that I have followed avidly from the late 80s and have read and written extensively about the subject.

“Planning was impromptu. I was looking to cover the subject as per the Biblical account taken from the Old Testament with regards the sons of God coming down and having relations with the daughters of men. Books of Genesis and Enoch.

“It conjures up some interesting concepts and ideas. I tend to work in specific ways with my written work.

“My aim is to primarily entertain and offer the reader light reading whilst at the same time I also look to convey deeper, more challenging substance to the text. In terms of story structure, I tend to stay on the safer side of romance. Nothing explicit, mind you.

“If I can’t shake off an idea or general outline or my story, and I can visualise the opening scene, then there is a good chance I will run with that as an idea.

“If a middle and end appear then that’s a probable certainty that I will tackle the subject.

“I have no special techniques but my work is usually humorous, perhaps somewhat tongue in cheek. There is however one character who I resurrect from my very early writing: Don Vincento a Mexican Yaqui Indian shaman, a

Christ-like character who seems to be present always at the right time. He has a strong presence in my first book Purple.

“The books usually start with my principal characters being presented with some form of problem – males of early middle age who come into conflict with a younger female protagonist. With Nephilim we do not see our monsters until the end of the book. This then easily flows into a second volume where the questions of the first volume are answered.

“Our story begins in the University of New Hampshire faculty of archaeology, where we meet Professor Lloyd Sandford, a well-known and publicised American archaeologist, and Rosa-lee da Silva who works for the department of archaeology in north-east Mexico. They clash but end up in each other’s arms after facing a number of dangerous and life-threatening events. There will be one sequel: Nephilim (when giants ruled the earth).

“I have a programme of around 14 titles I want to see published over the next decade.

“Titles include Red Shield, volumes one to four, and as a dedication to Bognor Regis – Letters in the Sand, an actionadventure story that takes place in England during the Boar War.

“Our principal character is to be based upon the celebrated film maker Cecil Hepworth; we screened his work at the End of the Pier International Film Festival.”

Bryan says he writes out of a “creative passion as per my film scripts and everything else. It keeps me sane to a certain degree!”
