Heartsmart walks

Arranged by trained volunteer leaders, Heartsmart walks aim to show people routes, encourage them to keep their hearts healthy and help them meet other people to walk with. Here are this week’s planned walks:

n April 18, 10.30am – Boxgrove Village Hall to Halnaker Windmill. A twohour, five-mile hilly climb to Halnaker Windmill and return. Meet: Boxgrove Village Hall, PO18 0ES.

n April 18, 2pm – East Dean. A 3-3.5-hour, 6.6-mile uphill walk through farmland and forest up to the South Downs Way, with stunning scenery. Meet: All Saints Church, East Dean.

n April 19, 10.30am – Around Duncton. A twohour, three-mile circular walk passing through Burton Park and past Duncton Mill. Mainly flat and on good paths. Meet: Parking along Willets Close on the approach to Duncton Cofe School.

n April 19, 11am – Midhurst Jubilee Walk and South Pond. A 30-minute, one-mile walk at a gentle pace with a steady incline to the top of the jubilee path and a small bridge over the pond. Meet: The Grange Leisure Centre, GU29 9HD.

n April 20, 10.30am –

Compton to Up Marden. A 2.5-hour, six-mile walk along lanes and through woodland and fields. Two uphills and one stile. Meet: Compton Recreation Ground car park.

n April 22, 10.30am – West Harting Down. A two-hour, four-mile walk along The Bosom and the South Downs Way. Meet: Harting Down National Trust car park.

n April 22, 10.30am – Compton to Harting. A fourhour, nine-mile walk from Compton to join the South Downs Way and Harting Down. A hilly walk with lovely views of the Downs and open countrysid­e. No dogs. Meet: Compton Recreation Ground car park.
