Supercars took to Goodwood Motor Circuit earlier this month and helped raise over £7,000 for Walberton children’s charity The Sussex Snowdrop Trust.

Organised by Peter Saywell, managing director of Worthing-based aviation company Saywell International, the Supercar Track Day allowed people to attend for free and experience the thrill of seeing some of the world’s fastest cars in action.

Peter said: “If one child goes to sleep dreaming of being in a supercar, then I feel it has been a good day.”

Attendees enjoyed the addition of an ultimate car simulator rig with its three screens from Classic Race Simulators, which gave a realistic driving experience of being in a race or on track day for donations.

Others tried the slot cars set up by South Downs Slot Car Club, which proved to be very popular with all generations.

Di Levantine, chairman and co-founder of The Sussex Snowdrop Trust, said: “We as a charity feel so lucky to have been chosen by Peter Saywell to benefit from his generosity.

“It allows people the opportunity to escape from the everyday routine and embrace the world of supercars.

“The way Peter chats to the children when the cars are on the grid shows his genuine concern for their wellbeing.

“As a local charity it is a huge honour to be associated with such an event at the prestigious Goodwood Motor Circuit.

“This year we were pleased to welcome the High Sheriff of West Sussex, Neil Hart, to the event – who had previously visited our Walberton office to hear about the charity and the Care at Home Team who provide such wonderful, vital nursing support at home for children who have a life threatening or terminal illness.

“Throughout these coming months we know that more Snowdrop families will be struggling with the cost of living and petrol costs for hospital visits.

“We are able to help them financially, in a small way, in what is already a very anxious time.

“It was a very memorable day and we are so grateful to everyone who came and all the drivers who contributed raising a staggering £7,235.69 for the charity.“

A giant chocolate egg donated by Stas Chocolatier through The Friends of Sussex Hospices was won by a Snowdrop family – while many others went home with small eggs donated by Morrisons in Littlehampton on the sweet and toy tombola, which was run by volunteers who were very pleased to share their volunteering experiences with the High Sheriff of West Sussex.

The Sussex Snowdrop Trust’s next fundraising event is its annual walk at Arundel Castle Park on May 8. For more information visit www. thesussexsnowdroptrust.com
