Get out and about and stay fit with these Heartsmart walks

Arranged by trained volunteer leaders, Heartsmart walks aim to show people routes, encourage them to keep their hearts healthy and help them meet other people to walk with. Here are this week’s planned walks:

May 9, 10.30am – 20th anniversar­y celebratio­n walk and event. A 90-minute, threemile city walls walk followed by tea and cake at the district council to celebrate 20 years of Heartsmart walks. Limited spaces. Meet: The Johns Keat seat in Eastgate Square, outside Charlie Harpers, PO19 1ED.

May 9, 11am – Chichester Canal. A 30-minute, onemile flat walk at a gentle pace, suitable for beginners. Meet: Chichester Canal, PO19 8DT.

May 10, 10.30am – Pagham Harbour to Runcton. A 2-2.5hour, five-mile flat walk through quiet lanes and fields, finishing at The Walnut Tree. Return by 600 bus or option to walk back. No dogs. Meet: At end of Church Lane, Pagham.

May 10, 11am – Midhurst Jubilee Walk and South Pond. A 30-minute, one-mile walk at a gentle pace with a steady incline to the top of the jubilee path. Meet: The Grange Leisure Centre, GU29 9HD.

May 11, 10.30am – West Marden. A three-hour, 6.5mile walk to Walderton via West Marden, including lanes and pleasant walking through woods and fields. Moderately strenuous with some gentle hills and five stiles. Meet: Stansted House Car Park, P09 6DX (first car park on right).

May 12, 10am – Wisborough Green. A 2.5 to 3-hour, 6.5-mile walk up Kirdford Road, through Nature Conserve and up footpath to bridleways and roads. Meet: Park at the green in the lay-bys.

May 12, 10.30am – Petworth Park, Upperton and Tillington. A two-hour, fourmile circular walk with one or two short climbs. Meet: Sylvia Beaufoy Centre car park.

May 13, 10.30am – Arundel Park. A two-hour, four-mile walk through the Park to Offham and the Arun riverbank. Meet: Swanbourne Lake Lodge.

May 13, 10.30am – Petworth Park ancient tree walk, part one – A onehour, 45-minute, three-mile fascinatin­g walk through Petworth Park trees from 350800 years old. Meet: Petworth Park North Car Park.
