Sailors are racing for club honours

-

Youth sailors from Chichester Yacht Club and other Chichester Harbour clubs came together to take part in the first CYC Youth Turbo Regatta of the year.

It was lovely to see Optimists, Teras, Toppers, Lasers and Fevas out racing. Despite breezy conditions reducing the number of races and shortening time on the water, all sailors managed brilliantly!

The sailors enjoyed racing on a triangular course before they headed back to the shore for a prizegiving.

The evening youth disco was enjoyed by the sailors, their families and friends.

A huge thank you went to all who helped out.

The next Youth Turbo Regatta is this Saturday from 3pm with a barbecue afterwards. All youth sailors from CYC and other Chichester Harbour Clubs are welcome. DELL QUAY

A glorious afternoon saw the first in the pursuit series at Dell Quay SC with eight boats signing on. Pursuit races have the slowest boats starting first, the fastest last, the aim being to get to the front by the end.

Race officer Stephen Holcroft set a simple upwind/ downwind course.

De la Hunty’s Laser Radial went away first followed by the Solos of Hilgers, Nicky Buchanan and Purdy.

Hilgers had a fine start and overtook the Radial. Next off was Francis (Graduate), followed by Dickers (Vareo), Andrew Buchanan (Finn) and, 27 minutes after the Radial, Chrystall and Tomlinson in the RS 800.

In the final stages Purdy looked like he was going to catch Francis, but time ran out and in the end, Francis took a well deserved win, Purdy second, Hilgers third.
