Selsey golf ladies get into swing of busy year
Selsey Golf Club’s ladies are looking forward to another year of golfing competitions and joining in with all the activities of the club.
Last years' season finished with the ladies’ festive scramble competition. Everyone enjoyed playing this fun game and the winners were Gilly Chapman, Caroline Newton and Shirley Brown.
The Ladies' AGM was held. Lady Captain Sheila Watmore gave a report of her very successful year as captain and thanked all those who had supported her and her chosen charity, Selsey Community Forum.
The ladies raised £1,500 and this was added to the Club Captain Simon Aspital's charity fund – he had also chosen
the Selsey Community Forum. A total sum of £12,015.10 was presented to the charity.
One of the things Sheila
did was encourage ladies to play in some of the local open tournaments and the ladies played at Ham Manor GC, twice in fact as rain stopped play and the tournament had to be re-scheduled.
Sheila worked very closely with the men’s and vets’ sections, helping to organise mixed matches and social events. These were well supported and the junior section were able to join in and did very well, making them a force to be reckoned with in the coming year.
Sheila encouraged ladies to participate in a fairly new event, Friday night rolls, followed by a barbecue, open to family and friends and held monthly.
All the ladies enjoyed Sheila's Lady Captain's Day and she held a Captain's Charity Day. Both were great days to be remembered.
Sheila handed the role of Lady Captain to Jaqui Towns. Jaqui was presented with the Lady Captain's silver brooch and the Lady Captain's jumper and everyone wished her a happy and successful year.
Jaqui announced her chosen charity for the coming year, the Aldingbourne Trust.
The next main event in the new Lady Captain's calendar is her charity coffee morning. This is to be held on Friday week, February 24, starting at 10am.
Coffee and cake will be available and there will be a raffle, a home-made cake stall and art and crafts stall.
Local people are warmly invited to go along and join the ladies for coffee.
