President Dawn Sudbury welcomed members to its March meeting and ‘proceeded to apologise for the lack of a speaker’, a spokesperson said. “Unfortunately the gentleman was unable to attend after all, and she had tried a lot of speakers without success at short notice over the weekend. So other plans had been made.

“Apologies had been received from several members and then Jerusalem was sung. Dawn caused laughter when she joked that she was thanking herself for the table flowers – a bowl of flowering bulbs.

“Joan Foster and Di Redford had both sent cards of thanks for flowers and kind thoughts sent to both of them from Hunston WI and from many members too.

“The record was not available but arising from it was the new budget for the next year. Copies were on each table and members were unanimous in accepting it after it was proposed and seconded by Heather Crate and Betty Pennicot.

“Joan Duberly reported on her attendance with Anne Duffy at the WSFWI Table Tennis Tournament. They had both enjoyed the fun day even if they had not won matches. Dawn drew attention to various pages of the West Sussex news and suggested that we could have an outing to Petworth. Speakers interviewing day was also discussed, before it was pointed out that there was still a need for a person to man the sales table each month and also for somebody to Meet and Greet. The financial statement was satisfactory, and there was still time to add to the list of people going on the coach trip to Moreton-in-marsh on June 6.

“With no speaker Annette Rees had concocted an interesting Springtime Quiz and a ‘recognise the wild flower’ picture Quiz. Joint winners were Di Redford and Gay Stacey.

“After tea and biscuits Joan Duberley handed out another Wild Flower quiz sheet of Clues to solve for the name of a flower. This one was won by Ann Holderness.

“Jean's Witchhazel was first in the flower of the month, with Di's Camelia second and Anne's Pulmonaria

third. Annette and Eileen were thanked for the refreshments and then the Hamper raffle was drawn – Rosemary Harper being the winner this month. The general raffle draw followed and the table flowers were given to Doreen Penniston.”

Next month's meeting will see speaker Mimi Bogelund talk on Decluttering.
