Heartsmart Walks, Chichester District Council

Chichester District Council’s Heartsmart walks are available to book a week in advance at chichester.gov.uk/ heartsmart and include:

•Easter Sunday (April 9), 10.30am: Binsted woods. A four-mile mainly flat headland path, grass, gravel. Meet: Walberton Village Hall car park, The Street, Walberton.

•Tuesday (April 11), 11am: Midhurst Jubilee Walk & South Pond. A one-and-a-halfmile walk around Midhurst at a gentle pace passing interestin­g historic buildings along the way. Meet: The Grange Leisure Centre, Bepton Road.

•Wednesday (April 12), 10.30am: Cocking. A six-anda-half-mile ramble along the paths of West Dean woods. A moderately strenuous longer walk with some steep gradients. Will be muddy if it has rained recently. Meet: Cocking Hill car park.

•Thursday (April 13), 10.30am: Petworth via Shimmings Valley. A three-mile walk to see “Little Switzerlan­d", as the locals call the beautiful Shimmings Valley (east side of Petworth). A long upwards slope to Lover's Lane and Brinksole Heath (see the best sign in Sussex), and return via Byworth, crossing the Haslingbou­rne stream and back via Virgin Mary Spring. Some uneven ground at the end. Meet: Petworth Library, Rosemary Lane, High Street.

•Thursday (April 13), 10am: Wisborough Green. A six-and-a-half-mile walk up Harsfold Lane over the Wey and Arun Canal to Lee Place then via bridleways and footpaths to Lordings Lock. A walk with uphill and downhill parts, six stiles, one fence. Meet: Park at the green in the laybys.

•Thursday (April 13), 10.30am: Iping, Stedham and Woolbeding. A longer walk of more than six miles with stiles, taking in Iping and Stedham Commons and the River Rother. No dogs. Meet: Iping Common car park.

•Next Friday (April 14), 10.30am: Stansted: Walk 5. A four-mile walk west along The Avenue to Rowlands Castle. Meet: Stansted House Garden Centre car park.
