Sussex shooters have titles in sights

-

Sussex prone target shooters have now completed 80% of their fixtures and the county A team have continued their fine start to the season with just one hiccup, a defeat to Hampshire by 1172-1180.

They sit top of division two, two points clear of Lothian & Borders who are the only team that can catch them. However, Sussex have two tough matches to finish the season, meeting Lothian and third-placed Devon.

Chichester’s Rob Dowling tops the team’s averages with three more possible (100s) to give him an average of 99.63. The whole team is shooting well and Nick Mullins of 5th Sussex Homeguard, 98.88, and East Grinstead’s Charles White, 98.75, are providing fine support.

Sussex B lie second in division three behind leaders Gloucestershire A. Gloucester have lost twice to Sussex, but Sussex have twice lost to bottom placed Kent A.

Top average in the team is Chichester’s Nick Pike who has shot five possible in the first eight rounds, jone fewer than Dowling, and has an average of 98.38. The next highest average, 97.50, is shared by Peter Leggett (Chichester), Matthew Button, Gavin Mulcahy (Uckfield) and Joe Wiliamson (5th Sussex HG).

Sussex C are bottom of Division 7 with Uckfield’s J Kruger (97) leading the averages.

Sussex ladies A are third in Division 1. Linda Smallbone (Eastbourne) is top average with 98.50 followed by Chichester’s Sara Carr (97.75).

The ladies’ B team are top of Division 4. Top shooters are Aldingbourne’s Jan Whittle (96.63) and Chichester’s Weronika Kaczanowska (96.50).
