King’s coronation was ‘simply breath-taking’

- Gillian Keegan MP for Chichester

This coronation weekend was one to remember, and whether it was coming together with neighbours to celebrate at a street party or watching at home on TV, I hope you were all able to make the most of this historic time.

I was lucky to join Their Highnesses in Westminster Abbey for the big day, and from my seat in the Quire (which is where the choir sit), the spectacle was simply breath-taking. From the first steps into the chapel, to seeing the Red Arrows fly overhead, it was a huge honour to be part of such a special, and quintessentially British, piece of history, which I know we’ll all remember for a lifetime – God Save the King!

It was fantastic to speak with Anya from Mulberry Marine Experiences in Selsey recently. For those that don’t know, Mulberry is a small, family-run business about getting more people in the water and doing its bit to improve our marine environment. I learnt more about its new Ecology Summer School initiative, launching in collaboration with the Selsey Lions. The school will be a fantastic opportunity for young people to immerse themselves in marine ecology, taking part in fun science experiments, snorkelling classes, and picking up top tips for staying safe in the water. Mulberry will be offering 15 fully-funded places to children in Selsey, so if this is something you or a family member might be interested in, make sure to follow the Marine Experiences’ Facebook page to get the latest on when the applications go live: https://www.facebook.com/mulberryme

Finally, I want to take a moment to thank a number of truly excellent Conservative councillors who will sadly no longer be serving us on Chichester District Council, following last week’s local elections. They have overseen some incredible achievements these past years; advancing a Local Plan with sustainable housing numbers more than 1,000 below original government plans, delivering some of the highest performing public services in the region, and carefully managing the budget to ensure the council was well-run financially.

I had the pleasure of serving with these excellent councillors during my own time on the District Council, and I’m hugely grateful to each of them for their service to the community

– I know they will be sorely missed by many.
