Keep fit and meet new people while walking

Chichester District Council’s Heartsmart walks are available to book a week in advance at chichester.gov. uk/heartsmart and include:

•Tomorrow (May 12), 10.30am: Amberley, South Downs Way, River Arun. A six-and-a-half-mile hilly walk with downland views, including a walk through Amberley village and walks by the Arun. No dogs (except assistance dogs). Meet: Amberley Station/amberley Museum Car Park.

•Tomorrow (May 12), 10.30am: Nature’s Beauty on the Common. Join South Downs ranger Elinor for a one to one-and-a-half-miles relaxing springtime walk around the heathland at Iron Hill. No dogs. Meet: The Iron Hill car park, south of Liphook on the Midhurst Road.

•Monday (May 15), 2pm: Chichester: Sidlesham via Selsey Tramway (Linear Route). An interestin­g flat six-mile walk along the route the historical Selsey Tram Way followed on its way to Selsey. Note this is a linear walk, so bus fares/ bus passes are required for our return to Chichester. No dogs. Meet: Outside Cineworld, Chichester Gate.

•Tuesday (May 16),

11am: Midhurst Jubilee Walk & South Pond. Various flat walks around Midhurst. Meet: The Grange Leisure Centre, Bepton Road.

•Wednesday (May 17), 10.30am: West Marden.

A six-and-a-half-mile walk to Walderton via West Marden, including lanes and pleasant walking through woods and fields. Could be very muddy if there has been a lot of rain and there are five stiles. Meet: Stansted House Car Park.

•Wednesday (May 17), 10.30am: Climping. A threemile walk along dunes and beach to Climping Mill, then to Ferry Road and Rope Walk to the Yacht Club. Meet: 10.30am at Arun Yacht Club Car Park, Rope Walk.

•Friday (May 19), 10.30am: Swanbourne Lake and the South Downs. A five-mile walk taking in the River Arun and the South Downs. There is a significan­t ascent and descent. Meet: Swanbourne lake.
