Are you getting excited about all that is Christmas yet?

- The view from V2

It took me a while this year. Even though the Christmas songs start playing in the supermarkets in October, even though people seem to want to put up their tree mid November, even though some people seem determined to start the festivities early…

I can only say that NOW, I’m starting to feel the joys of Christmas. Maybe the fact we lugged our 6ft real Christmas tree home yesterday, helped. The outing was complete with all the usual ‘fun’. We always go to a local Christmas tree farm, then argue about driving there and back. A quick seating shuffle was needed to accommohouse date the tree, which resulted in some ‘disagreements’ but hey, it’s done. I now have a real tree in my living room. My ginger tom, Maximo, is currently sipping the water from the base. Can’t beat that tree water taste.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Christmas. My family and friends would all agree with that. My looks like a grotto, I dress like Mrs Claus/pat Butcher with bright jumpers and huge earrings. I love all the parties and gatherings but also the opposite, just sitting on the sofa with a nice hot chocolate watching my favourite and the BEST Christmas film in the world…..national Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation! You agree, I’m sure? We haven’t even talked about Christmas food! We’ve tucked through a tin of shortbread biscuits, some Lebkuchen stars and the other day we had a pigs in blanket baguette with brie and cranberry sauce. True Christmas indulgence. Nevermind the Christmas day roast which always is complete with Yorkshire puddings. Is that controversial?

Having two young daughters (11 and nine) helps me feel Christmassy. This year I have a believer and a non believer, so I will keep the magic alive for as long as possible. I’m ready for all the Christmas eve excitement, attempting to keep everyone calm; the girls have baths, get into their jammies and we always read the ‘Night before Christmas’. And then get the treats ready for Santa under the tree; we’ve learnt Santa likes a biscuit, a whiskey and of course we leave a carrot for poor old Rudolph.

Take a look behind the V2 Radio Advent Calendar and see what prize is behind the door. Of course, I’m talking virtually, through our social media on Facebook and Instagram PLUS we’ll be announcing what you can win on the radio. Yep, we’ve worked with Sussex’s top businesses to bring you fantastic prizes every single day leading up to Christmas. So remember to enter every day. Good luck. And Merry Christmas.
