Shooting aces have success in sights
Southbourne Bowls Club had their annual dinner and trophy presentation evening at the Southbourne Club.
As usual the evening started with an excellent dinner.
It was followed by Antony Bull, men’s captain, thanking the membership for their contributions over the year, in particular Ray (Wiggy) Leggett, who was Sussex champion runner-up in the singles.
Antony then introduced the Guest of Honour Chris Halliwell, director of Belcher Addison Solicitors, a major supporter of the club’s Open Fours Day for many years.
After a short speech he together with his wife Lynda presented the trophies to the winners of the previous year’s outdoor and short mat bowls competitions.
Trophy winners included Andy Smith (Short Mat 4 Wood singles), Malcolm
Keane and Pete Garrard (Pairs League w inners) and Antony Bull and Allan Smith (Lewis Trophy winners).
This year it was good to note that several new names were amongst the winners.
Songs and music from Ricky Zalez concluded a very enjoyable evening.
DONNINGTON
Donnington Short Mat Bowls Club invited Nyetimber SMBC to play a friendly at Donnington Hall.
Nyetimber never really got into the game and that meant Donnington won on both mats.
However everyone enjoyed a good game and Nyetimber are looking forward to having the home advantage when the teams meet again at the end of March.
Lavinia Brooks provided the players with a ploughman’s tea.
Maggie Maggs organised the raffle.
On mat one, Donnington bowlers were Mary Potter, Adrian Hawley, Janine Banham and skip Allan Banham; Nyetimber bowlers were Jan Hadfield (club captain), Linda Brian, Jan Wilkins and skip Harry Poulastides.
On mat two, Donnington bowlers were Chris White, Will Willson (club captain), Sue Coley and skip Terry Haigh, while Nyetimber’s bowlers were Stan Barnes, Jim Upton, John Brian and skip Carol Sands.
