Relegation escape bid gets big boost

Chichester welcomed Farnham to Oaklands Park in a game they needed to win to ease any fears of relegation.

Chichester made nine changes to the team that lost narrowly to Wimborne, last time out, with Liam Barker, Tom charles, and owen tucker coming into the pack, Isikeli Waka, JosaiaKoro bi au and Rhys Thompson joining the backs, and Materati Waqanisau, Richard Ives and Matt Mclagan on the bench.

Chichester needed to win this game to escape any fear of relegation. This was achieved and with the bonus point earned they are now 13 points ahead of the danger with just three games left.

They scored five tries, four conversion­s and a penalty to Farnham’s four tries and one conversion.

Tight head prop Charles from the university made his debut for Chichester. The pitch was now in good condition and with a thin cloud coverblues kicked off. blew itt put three points on the board with an early penalty.

After 12 minutes of probing Chichester raided from a lineout, full back Thompson into the line and his kick over the top to the right wing gave speedy Korobiau his chance to round the full back, pick up and score. Blewitt converted.

Fa rn ham went to the other end and passed left and right across the posts, winning a penalty. A quick tap and they went over at the right corner.

Blues hit back and left winger Andrews showed determinat­ion and pace. They pressed and twice were frustrated at the try line, before fly half Stops made a huge clearance kick to stop a dangerous breakaway by the visitors.

Then suddenly lock forward tucker took a quick pass at speed, stepped pasta tackler with great ease and thundered to the posts. blew it t converted.

After 34 minutes, andrews kicked forward an dr an hard to collect and touch down near the left corner.

This led to a lineout and drive, with Binfield picking up at the rear of the maul to plunge over and converted by Blewitt.

Once again, however, blues were to lose momentum and cohesion in a second half and their performanc­e became erratic.

Farnham restarted and Chichester knocked on, followed by a sc rum offence leading to a Farnham line out.

Their forwards rolled forward and pick and goes put them over near the posts.

Suddenly, when their backs were on the attack, Korobiau intercepte­d a pass on his 22 metre line and raced like a greyhound 70 metres to the far end and no one touched him. it was an easy conversion for blew it tin front of the posts.

Farnham responded and crossed for a third try. Outside centre Blewitt delighted the home supporters with a jinking run for 30 metres with opponents bemused.

The last 10 minutes brought Farnham pressure, and with pick and goes they gained their deserved fourth try and a single bonus point.
