Selsey get away with missed chances

-

Selsey won 3-2 at Billinghurst in SCFL Division 1 – although made hard work of it.

This game – played at Steyning Town – looked like it could be tricky, and was exactly that.

Despite creating four or five good chances Selsey never killed the game off – and nearly paid for lack of composure in front of goal. A missed penalty for the second week running didn't help their cause either.

Selsey boss Daren Pearce said: “To their credit Billingshurst never gave up and kept going to the end and we had to make sure after our third goal went in to make it 3-2 we tightened everything up and saw out the remaining 15 minutes without conceding an equaliser.

"Our goals came from Ollie Humpries (2) and a Bradley Higgins-pearce strike made sure of the points and it was a result to maintain our league position and keep us near the play-off places.

"After last week's disappointment of losing to Roffey, on Saturday it was good ro see the lads keep doing the right things and trusting in the process of what and how we like things to be done. They work hard in training and deserve the credit for the win.”

The points left Selsey seventh, but only three points off fourth place, and Pearce added: "Games are now coming thick and fast after the recent weeks of torrential rain.”

On Tuesday night Selsey were due to play their first home in six weeks, with Worthing United visiting.

Selsey visit Dorking Wanderers B on Saturday.

In the SCFL premier, Pagham were held to a 0-0 draw by Loxwood at Nyetimber Lane, while Midhurst beat AFC Varndeanians 3-2.
