Tip booking

-

So, to drop off a couple of bags of grass clippings at any recycling centre (RC), West Sussex, I have to book and appointment. What an imposition. This in no way benefits the public. I still have to spend my time and incur fuel costs to get to the RC. What if I’m late? A return home, waste still on board and a rebooking?

Prior to February 12th various RCS had ‘site closed’ days. If these non-access days remain, there is likely to be a wait before a slot is available, especially at weekends. Rather like the banks closing branches, this scheme has not got our interests at heart.

I was particularly angry about the ‘protective’ arrangements at RCS during Covid which greatly lengthened the time spent on sites. Could no-one see that out in the fresh air the problem of contagion was minimised? It was the indoor mixing of people, eg ‘eat out to help out’, that was potentially dangerous.

Whatever’s next? Charging to drop off unwanted kitchen cabinets/ sinks? Oh perhaps this is the case already. Garden rubbish? Forget it.

Clearly we are paying more for less. The annual increase in council tax is relentless with mine approaching £4,000 yearly and the reason why I don’t feel like paying an additional charge to the council for collection of compost material from my home. If we add in the proliferation of working from home, a big rise in public sector workers taking home £100,000+ and gold plated pensions, again at the top end, it’s no surprise we are a nation of ‘moaners’.

Finally, perhaps someone from CDC could confirm or deny my belief that the council tax I pay includes additional monies to help offset the non payment by homeowners that can’t or won’t pay. I wrote to CDC on this matter but received no reply.
