I take my hat off to the millions of amazing carers

- The view from V2

The care industry is one of those industries that never stops. Bank Holidays, Christmas, national events? Our much admired nurses, care workers and good neighbours are still doing what needs to be done.

Being part of a family where quite a few of my relatives work in varying capacities within the NHS and care homes, and have done for years, there’s been plenty of times that they’ve had to miss out or the traditional timeline has been juggled about. Not one of them complain though. It’s part of who they are. Caring for someone.

More recently a family member has been on the other side of the care industry, receiving the care.

Our NHS tends to get a bit of a rough time with waiting list times, waiting times, appointment cancellations and having not the best communication at times.

However, I’ve seen first hand how much the people on the ground, the people working day in and day out, really are doing everything they can.

The consultant who assesses and works out what’s wrong and how they’ll treat it.

The nurse who ensures the right medication is taken at the right time. The HCA who monitors the obs to check they’re stable or notices when something isn’t doing what it should do.

The HCA who looks after personal care, brings each meal, gives comfort and communicates with relatives of the patient.

The porter who gets the patient to where they need to be.

The cleaner who takes care of infection prevention and cross-contamination.

Each person, at every level, is giving their all on a daily basis without expectation nor to a fanfare.

For me, being a carer or nurse or similar was never going to be something I did.

I take my hat off to every single person who works within the care industry in whatever capacity, I couldn’t do it.

And that’s why we’re running the Artius Care Awards – to give gratitude and recognition to these dedicated individuals.

We want to know who you take your hat off to. Be it a carer in a care home, a community carer, an unpaid carer, a fellow carer or a local hero – Nominate them now at v2radio. co.uk.
