Brighton’s brilliant for talented Tone Zone team

-

The Brighton Marathon drew more than 11,000 runners on a day that was hot and windy – and 14 of Bognor’s Tone Zone Runners were involved.

Some were doing it for the first time and others returning for another crack.

Ryan Meager was first across the line for Tone Zone, running his second marathon and finishing in 3:17:26.

Lee Boniface was using it to build up for a bigger challenge later in the year and ran 3:30:52, which qualifies him for London Marathon in the ‘Good for Age’ category.

After a tough marathon experience last time Byron Kearns wanted to redeem himself and finished in 3:32:25. Anne Enes was the first lady across the line for the club finishing in 3:34:06.

Gary Griffiths ran a strong race to finish in 3:47:09. Laura Williams pushed on from halfway to clock 4:03:42 just ahead of Richard Forward in 4:11, Jon Comins in 4:14 and Guy Hodgson in 4:17.

Head Coach Keith Hardwell was running his first marathon in his 60s, a fourth decade in which he has completed one. Hardwell finished in 4:41.

Lee Hayward has been troubled with illness and injuries during training, and his only goal was to cross the line with a smile – he did just that in 4:46.

Darren Crisp was running his first marathon and finished in under five hours in 4:50. Elizabeth Bilham joined the one per cent of the population to run a marathon, coming home in 5:09.

Sue Woodruff rounded off a great turnout from the club in 6:35.

Also in Brighton, Paul

Hackett took on the 10k held just before the marathon. Paul finished in 1:10:24.

Tony Holcombe and Alan Haskell took on the Southampton half marathon and finished in 2:06 and 2:34.

Sam Grover did the London Landmarks Half Marathon warming himself up for the marathon on April 21, and finished in 1.51.

Paul Wells and Karen Butcher did the same race and finished in 2:24 and 2:50.

Tony Hancock took on the Jersey half marathon, completing it in 2:23.

Going further afield were Sarah Spurr and Lesley Ward who took on the Paris Marathon.

Spurr finishing in 5:50 with Ward in 6:06.

Rodney Morley was also flying the flag abroad – at the Berlin Marathon completing the course around the sights of the German capital.
