First published 10 years ago, this pocket-sized, all-colour softback muscle car epic has to be one of the best-value books on the subject. In 240 glossy pages, muscle car guru Mike Mueller crams more photos and little-known facts into this surprisingly heavy, compact volume than half a dozen conventionally sized, and indeed priced, books. It was a bargain when first available and it is still good value today, but if you can snatch a pre-owned example in good condition from the likes of Amazon Marketplace for under a fiver, it’s an absolute steal!

It covers a wide range of quintessentially classic muscle cars from Chrysler’s 1955 C-300 to Chevrolet’s 2010 Camaro SS. With chapters covering Muscular Milestones and Factory

Hot Rods, you know you’re on to a winner. There’s a section on the smaller performance cars, from Plymouth Barracudas, first-generation Chevy Camaros, Ford Mustangs, Dodge Darts, Chevy Novas, Dodge Challengers and Dusters and AMC’s cute and underrated AMX. Pontiacs and even Mercury’s Cyclone make an appearance too.

The ‘specials’ are not forgotten either, including Shelbys, Nicky and Yenko Camaros, Hurst Olds and their often overlooked, but potent AMC SC/ Rambler. The cut-off year for the first factory muscle is 1970, but the ultimate Chevelles, Buick GTX, Hemi Cuda, Z/28, Torino Cobra Jet and others are all featured. Culminating in the 2007 Shelby GT500, 2008 Challenger SRT8 and the aforementioned SS Camaro, Mueller has covered most of the significant bases. It’s not just a pictorial either, with plenty to read. Highly recommended!
