AMERICAN TV SHOW MEMORIES

-

Dear Classic American,

I still regularly drive my '49 Hudson Commodore, ' 57 Buick Caballero Wagon, ' 58 Cad Biarritz Convertible, ' 58 Edsel Pacer Convertible and my '60 Chrysler New Yorker here in Switzerland every day, every summer, but I'm getting old and soon will have to part from some of them. Plus, they hate mountain roads...

About your Lockdown American Car TV Special, in issue 349 (May 2020), pages 62 to 65 :

All these aggressive tough dudes 'working' on mostly hot rods ... Is that really your readership? In case not, may I suggest two fabulous US TV series made on the streets of LA back then with sights of hundreds of everyday cars driving by (and parked) as the 30-minute stories unfolded.

■ 1 - HIGHWAY PATROL (early 1955 to late 1959 - 165 episodes) starring Broderick Crawford. On YouTube and DVD. For some reason, and to our delight, the producers used all sorts of different cop cars (GM, Ford, Chrysler Corp., Nash, etc.) of the year it was filmed. What a show!

2 -ADAM-12

■ (1968 to 1975 - 174 episodes) starring Martin Millner and Kent Mccord. On YouTube and DVD. The stories of a team of LA 'Black and White' cops driving several different model cars. All stories based on actual police files. If you love LA and cars, watch this one too.

Thank you for your wonderful magazine, the best in Europe! Michel von May Switzerland

Wow, best in Europe, what an accolade. Sounds like you're spoilt for choice when it comes to your cars and thanks for the suggestion of two fantastic series, one from the Fifties and the other from the Sixties and Seventies, which will be familiar to older readers, but definitely worth exploring for our younger readers.
