Classic American

Jim Wilson, Mopar EuroNats organiser

-

I was shocked and saddened at the passing of Tony Oksien. I was trying to figure out how long I had known him, my best estimate is about 38 years. I don’t think any one person can fill the void left by Tony. Tony was always friendly and approachable and willing to help. He was universally respected for his knowledge and enthusiasm. He was the driving force behind everything he did… and he did a lot. He became the British Mopar guru, founding the Mopar Muscle Association UK and building it into a major club for all Mopar enthusiasts. Tony was a regular contributor to Classic American magazine and he provided a valuation service for all classic American cars, recognised by the insurance companies. With Tim Holmes, Richard Berry and myself for 25 years he steered the Mopar EuroNationals to a very successful annual event at Santa Pod Raceway, an event not just for Mopar purists but for everyone with a love of American muscle cars – all brands welcomed. The Mopar Nats has become the ‘must go’ event of the year for many people, some not even born when the event first began in 1994. The success of the Nats is a tribute to the tireless hard work and dedication that Tony made in the organising (before and during,) every event. The 2021 Mopar EuroNationals will be held as a tribute to Tony, and to his contribution to the American car hobby in this country. Tony was an amazing man and a good friend for so many years. His passing is a great loss to us all and he will be sadly missed!
