Thunderbirds are go... up the A1!

-

Dear Classic American,

I was minding my own business, moseying along north up the A1 a couple of weeks back, when I saw this recovery truck with an unidentified Ford object on the back (UFO). Well, I assumed it was a Ford, as to my eyes it looked very much like the shell of a Ford Thunderbird.

I suspect it was maybe a 1960 model, as the rear had three hole sections in the tail panel, as if for the tail-lights. The strangest thing of all was that it was covered in rust, or rather it looked as if it had caught fire and then been left in the elements to get that thin coating of rust that cars do have when they have caught fire and then been left in the rain…

It had no trim or any other bodywork on it and the rust looked to only be surface, so I’m wondering if this T-bird was hustling up the A1 to be lovingly restored by its new owner, or off to the junkyard to be crushed. I imagine your readership will know!

Thanks for sharing your UFO sighting James. One certainly wouldn’t envy someone attempting a restoration from scratch on a body shell coated in rust with no trim or any other ancillaries – actually the thought of trying to recreate the power roof with all its relays and circuit breakers is enough to give one nightmares. That being said, the body looks solid, so let’s hope that is what this crusty T-bird’s fate is – and not the crusher!
