Classic American

Heavyweight police SUV

-

Years back I was able to bring you new 1:18 scale die-cast cars on a monthly basis, the majority of which were decent, affordable models. Nowadays smaller-scale vehicles are popular again, maybe because the market was awash with the biggies, they were too large to display or perhaps escalating material costs made them increasingly expensive. Nevertheless, there are still a few around such as this impressive 2015 Ford Explorer SUV presented as a New York Police Department vehicle from Greenlight Collectibles.

One of a series of officially licensed NYPD vehicles, the quality is excellent, the paint is flawless and the graphics are in register and well applied.

It’s a simple model, with just the doors opening to reveal the all-black interior, but its size and ‘heft’, the striking contrast of the white paint with the red and clear transparent emergency light bar lenses and the black wheels with their chromed hubcaps, instils a sense of the functionality and purposefulness of the real vehicle. One thing’s for sure, I’d want to keep well clear of the Ford’s massive bull bars up front! Budget for around £90.

A wide range of die-cast models and Americanrange plastic kits are available online at competitive prices. However, you should be able to source most models reviewed in Scale Autos from www. modelstore.co.uk or see American Classic Diecast at www.american-classic-diecast.co.uk
