Classic American

SUMMER FUN!

- Ben Klemenzson, editor bklemenzson@mortons.co.uk

As you can see from this month’s magazine, American car shows are back, although with restrictions to maintain social distancing through limiting numbers of display cars and visitors. It’s a challenge for show organisers as if the restrictions are too draconian and allow too few cars or visitors, then the event can end up losing money – it costs more or less the same to put on an event for 12,000 people as it does for 4000 people, yet obviously the income from the latter will be considerably less.

There’s also the knock-on effect with other associated businesses, such as caterers and other traders. No one wants to set up in a field and then barely sell enough to cover their costs to be there. Fingers crossed we’re still working out what the right balance is and from the shows we’ve attended, the public have been keen to attend and the weather has played ball! We’re not quite there yet, but things are definitely going in the right direction!

This month we feature the final instalment of our Yank Buyer’s Guide, so if you’ve ever contemplated getting behind the wheel of an American classic, hopefully this will provide you with some inspiration. We don’t cover prewar cars very often, but we couldn’t resist the story of the 1929 Lincoln in this month’s magazine – incredibly it’s been in the UK since new and is still in very much original condition.

Slightly different is the 1960 Cadillac we’re featuring this month; it has some interesting modifications that you’ll either love… or hate! There are plenty of cars to get your teeth into this month, so enjoy and make the most of what promises to be a fantastic summer!
