AACI charity finale
In spite of a few delays and then the inevitable intervention of Covid, the AACI (American Auto Club International) headed by Brendan McCarth, presented Keith Rossiter from children’s charity When You Wish Upon a Star with a cheque for £23,000 on Sunday, January 9. A good few of the old AACI team were able to attend the donation to the charity whose mission statement is “to grant the wishes of children living with a life-threatening illness”. These can be anything from a holiday of a lifetime to Disneyland, or a trip to see the England cricket team play the West Indies.
The figure on the cheque is actually made up of two donations, one in 2020 for £15,000 and then a further one last year for the remaining £8000. As we all know, 2020 wasn’t a good year for any charitable organisation, and the AACI responded to an article that was put out on Silk FM regarding the struggles at When You Wish
Upon a Star. Brendan said: “I have a letter, dated December 8, 2021, from Jen Hughes who is the regional fundraiser for them, acknowledging the £8000 donation and in it she informs us that over the years, the AACI has donated over £52,000 to the charity. Not bad, never as much as you want, but not bad all the same!”
And while it’s a great shame that the AACI had to fold, it is good to see that the remnants of the club’s funds were donated to such a worthy cause.
Congratulations!
Congratulations to Paul Harker who won the Quick Start Jump Starter from the treasure hunt competition in the January issue.
Well done Paul!
