Return of a favourite – AMT 1929 Ford Woody/pick-up
This kit, now in the capable hands of Round 2 Models, has been around for decades. Some kind soul will undoubtedly correct me if I am wrong, but the current AMT kit of the 1929 Ford Woody/pick-up, (both bodies being included), first arrived in the early- to mid-Sixties as an MPC kit, initially as a woody station wagon and later labelled The Wild Ones with the addition of a pick-up body, a Schwinn Sting Ray bicycle and a Hot Curl cartoon surfer figure. The Woody-only version returned as an AMT kit in the late Eighties. The original 4-in-1 kit, with both woody and pick-up bodies, plus the cycle but without the surfer figure, reappeared in 2001, similarly badged AMT.
Now it’s returned to Round 2’s catalogue with new vintagestyle box art. Thankfully, it retains the Raleigh Chopper-style Sting Ray bike. The car can be built as a stock or custom woody, a stock or custom pick-up, with plenty of optional parts to mix and match. Spindly stock wire wheels with skinny tyres are provided and five-spoke chromed wheels. They offer two optional flathead engine builds and a new multi-coloured waterslide decal sheet. This was always a great kit to build and the variety of parts enabled the modeller to assemble it in many different ways. Examples can be found online in the UK from £33.
