AMC LOVERS
Dear Classic American In reply to the request in the October issue regarding AMC vehicles in the UK I thought I would share my own car with you. It is a 1967 Ambassador convertible with the 343 V8 in right-hand drive, it was an original UK market car that I purchased in November 2014 at the age of 24. I’m now 32 and it is unfortunately off the road and in need of some welding to the sills and rear wheel arches... Quite a bit of welding in fact! It is currently stripped down and waiting for my attention; however, there are two Minis and two Land Rovers to attend to first.
It will get done and be back on the road at some point. I love it and wouldn’t be without it.
There have been times when it’s driven me totally mental. Trying to get hold of some specific parts for such a low volume vehicle. Fuel tank for one, ended up putting an alloy fuel cell in the boot – well, trunk as it’s American. But I stuck by it. I’ll do my usual when it comes to restoring it, which is going a lot further than a normal person would, probably to the point of painting all the underside. It’ll get done. My late father really liked it. He always liked a nice V8. So, I’ll sort it out in his memory.
