Cop Car Classic

-

Dear Classic American,

I hope that you take on board Mark Lupton’s request for more cop cars in Classic American because, let’s face it, the UK’s No.1 American car magazine bar none should be flagging up Crown Vics and the like as the classics of the future. Not only that, but genuine cop cars, plus a few fakes sadly, are very much a feature of car events all around the UK nowadays – who doesn’t want to wear a sheriff’s uniform?!

I had the pleasure of a long chat with the owner of a genuine Crown Vic black and white cruiser at the Cheltenham Retro Americana event back in June this year. I must say I’m hooked. That was a conversation full of info and interest.

Now, I’m a classic American car artist, I have done around 70 watercolour artworks of subjects from pre-war to the Seventies, but I would happily do a Crown Vic or Charger patrol car in a picture for sure and yes I am available for an interview anytime to showcase my work. More cop cars and their owners in future issues get my vote. I wonder now whether any genuine vintage cop cars out there exist. Keep up the good work!

Mark Turner Worcestershire

senior executive at Ford UK. I am sending a picture of the car being unloaded at Silverstone for the Daily Express-GKN 22nd International T rophy race. Perhaps Frank’s two mechanics, Norman Lockwood and Mark LeSeur, could add to the history of the car. Those were the days, what an era!

Peter Everett

Green Norton Northants

Halcyon days indeed and thank you for sharing this very personal photo taken back during that race. How lucky were you to witness all this firsthand!

Ooh boy, this sounds like it’s set to heat up like the old ‘should there be rods and customs in Classic American’ debate. Well, watch this space, we’ll always cover everything and anything American and automotive. Although the Crown Vic/Mercury Grand Marquis are undoubtedly future classics!
