Classic American

WINTER BLUES

- Ben Klemenzson, editor bklemenzson@mortons.co.uk

Welcome to the March 2024 issue of Classic American. Winter is always a bit of a melancholy time for classic American car owners; for many of us the cars are squirreled away, hibernating and waiting for spring… Although, if you’re like me, you might be waiting for one of those bright, dry days after it’s been raining heavily (to wash the salt away!) to get your car out and give it a run, even if it’s just around the corner.

We expect to see beautiful classic cars in the summer, but what a nice surprise to see one in the depth of winter and if you are one of those ‘winter warriors’ who dares to take your car out between November and March, more power to you – you’re probably cheering up someone’s day! This month’s issue has a couple of show reports we didn’t manage to shoe-horn in last year, but despite being a few months late, we hope they will inspire you to get enthusiastic about going to shows, cruises and events next year (check out our Events and Cruises Blue pages on page 73 & 74).

It’s only a month or so until the first big American event of the year, Wheels Day, the organisers of which are testing out a new venue at Newbury Showground. While many of us may lament the demise of the venue in Aldershot, the Surrey Street Rodders have been clear as to the reason: “It was not the Surrey Street Rodders that wanted to leave Rushmoor Arena, unfortunately with over a 100% cost increase we had no option.” Amen to that and roll on a deliciously warm, dry and fun 2024 show season – see you out there. And for those of you who subscribe to the ‘they’re for driving, not polishing’ philosophy, check out our feature on Andrew and Lynne Collier’s 1955 Cadillac Eldorado for some vindication – see this magnificent motor starting on page 28!
