Wireless smart alarm on the alert
The use of technology to beat bike thieves has stepped up a gear with the launch of a new remote alarm system, the Axxess28 Moto X. The creators of the wireless alarm and alert system say it will protect both bikes and properties.
The base system consists of a main ethernet hub which is plugged into a broadband router using an ethernet cable, a wireless 119bd siren and a wireless transmitter. The system works through 10m of wireless transmitter cable which is looped either through the frame or wheel and connected to a static device such as a ground anchor.
The transmitter is fitted inside a custom designed waterproof housing coupled with a low volt electrical cable with a waterproof connector that allows for authorised removal. It has a battery life of at least four to five years.
A 12-volt DC version with a roaming SIM card that can be used to protect motorbikes in transit and at race meetings is also available. This version can also be used at home. Both versions are controlled via a free smartphone app which is used to set and unset the system. The app will alert via push notification of any unauthorised removal of the protection device.
Any unauthorised tampering, either by disconnecting the plug or cutting the cable will activate the remote siren and send alerts via the app to the user's smartphone. Motion detectors can be added with or without photographic snapshots that act as a means of further protection. It is a highend device designed to protect high value competition machines, and valuable classics.
The mains powered system costs £545 while the 12-volt system with the remote hub is £645. We haven't tested the system but combined with good quality locks, chains and ground anchors to be truly effective, anything that slows down the thieves has to be a good thing.
