AUSSIE BMW FANS GIVE BIRTH TO NEW SPARKS

-

Anyone who has run an old airhead BMW will know that one of these bikes’ few flaws is the points ignition system located on the front of the engine, just behind the front wheel, where it’s hard to get at and attracts road crud. Even when the system went electronic it was less than perfect.

Following issues with other electronic ignition systems, a group of Australian BMW fans have banded together with the aim of designing and developing the best, simplest, most modern, and reliable ignition system for their Bavarian bombshells, specifically, the type 246 and 247 boxer engine fitted to the /5 series right to the end of production in 1996.

The Wedgetail twin trigger ignition system has been tested on multitude of the flat twins.

While we at CBG haven’t tested the real thing ourselves, we know that anything that can improve the old 1970s design has to be a good thing. The Wedgetail was tested over 100,000 miles by numerous riders to ensure its longevity. Riders report that the Wedgetail gives them more power, easier starting and smoother performance.

The systems are available from MotoBins, and cost between £350 and £450 depending on the model.
