A unique bike tricky to value
Love your mag, always topical and interesting. The diversity of bikes you feature is fascinating, as is the depth of knowledge from the various forums and articles you include. Good reading.
I’m interested in the asking price of some of the bikes in the for sale columns; moreover, the scarcity of the two-stroke motocross bikes – 125, 250 and the 500s in the For Sale listings.
I’ve got a 2001 CR500R last model, bought it new, never clicked into gear, unridden; it’s a new bike. Dry stored all of its life. Zero hours. Recently had all of the oils changed, including the coolant, brake fluid and engine oil, with a view to keeping it in storage.
I’m not selling it but wonder if I should. I’d be interested in what you think it is worth. I have all the books, bubble-wrapped, including the Honda ballpoint pen that I signed the sales agreement with. Mark
Wow, that is tricky question. Firstly, we don’t have that many motocross bikes sent in. And pricing a bike that’s never been used is a case of what it’s worth to a collector. It’s not a classic, yet, but it’s not the latest version, so I’m not sure who would want it. I would enjoy it as art to look at for another 20 years and then it should be worth a lot more – Matt
