What I’ve learned when cleaning alloy:

Dirty parts first and clean them in a separate, dirty area – it goes everywhere.

Scotchbrite, brake cleaner and GT85 work well on dirty areas

Brass wire brushes in a drill give a better finish than stainless steel, providing you keep them clean with brake cleaner

Have good lighting so you can see finish

Dremmel wire brushes and wheels are rubbish and fling tiny pieces of wire everywhere, which you find scratching you days later. You can’t seem to buy quality ones

Anything harder could take the casting finish off the parts
