A weekend for steaming up

-

A weekend of classic motorcycles is a fine thing, but a weekend of classic motorcycles, traction engines, and steam railways is for many a thing not to be missed.

The West Somerset Railway Association has all that to offer and more at its first steam rally in three years, held on the grass fields of the association’s 33-acre site at Norton Fitzwarren, three miles west of Taunton. A free shuttle service will operate from Bishops Lydeard Station, the starting point of the West Somerset Railway, the longest heritage railway in the UK, to the platform at the rally site, and a free vintage bus service will operate from Silk Mills Park and Ride, via Norton Fitzwarren village.

The rally is open to the public from 10am to 5pm on Saturday, August 6 and Sunday, August 7. Attractions include classic motorcycles, working traction engines, road rollers, vintage cars, fire engines, buses, military and commercial vehicles, and vintage agricultural vehicles and tractors.

There will also be vehicle parades in the ring and around the site.

Tickets cost up to £15 and can be purchased at wsra.org.uk/the-steam-rally/.
