Bike theft protest in Scotland’s capital
Motorcyclists in Edinburgh have staged a protest at a spate of motorcycle thefts that have made riding in the city a no-go location for many locals and visitors. Touring visitors in particular have found their bikes targeted in a series of thefts, which appear to have been carried out by young joyriders who dump the bikes when they get bored or run out of fuel. Everything from 125cc commuters to classics have been stolen. Motorcyclists in the city are posting on international forums warning visitors to secure their machines or avoid Edinburgh altogether. Riders and their bikes joined together outside the Scottish Parliament after an increasing number of thefts in the city.
Police say they will deal with the issue “robustly”. A 14-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with 28 motorcycle thefts.
