The AMC Alternative
AMC owners gathered for the AJS and Matchless Alternative rally at the end of September.
Using the Six Bells pub in Chiddingly, Sussex, as its base, a rather damp Friday run saw riders stop at the Laughing Fish, in Isfield. Mortons, the publisher of this magazine, donated a batch of publications, giving each attendee something to read between the rain showers. Weather improved for Saturday and Sunday, with a 60-mile run out to the landmarks of Beachy Head and Newhaven Fort on the Saturday.
Over the weekend there was an autojumble with new and second-hand parts, and there was plenty of time in the Six Bells for breakfast and evening meals, with a band playing on the Friday evening.
There were 41 bikes of the marque on the Saturday run, with awards given for Best AJS and Matchless, Furthest Travelled and Ridden AJS & Matchless, and Furthest Travelled
Lady Rider. The event was organised by the local AJS & Matchless (Sussex) section, with participants attending from France, Scotland, and as far west as Cornwall, making for a truly international event.
The AJS & Matchless owners’ club website is www.jampot.com, where spare parts are available and technical help including dating services to support DVLA applications. There are local club sections throughout the UK and internationally to promote the use of motorcycles of the marque.
