Festival favourite is back in its spritual Leicestershire home
The sun’s out, the days are long, and there’s so much to see and do
Back under the protective wing of the VMCC, July sees The Festival of 1000 Bikes relaunched at Mallory Park. It’s one of the most inclusive track-based events of the summer and, as CB went to press, there were still a few places available for the track sessions. But even if you miss out this year, there’ll still be plenty to see and do at the event.
Saturday’s track action is for road bikes (with separate sessions for cyclemotors and veteran machines), while on Sunday the race bikes come out to play. There are two race bike track sessions for the mere mortals, as well as a sprint demonstration and the ever-popular past masters parades. Evergreen Sammy Miller is bringing his Moto Guzzi V8 and Gilera four replica, while star names already signed up include John Cooper, Colin Seeley, Tommy Robb, Paul Smart, Trevor Nation and John Mcguinness.
There’s also a pre-65 trial, historic grass track, trade and autojumble stands, club displays, plus live music and bars. Camping is available from Friday on. vmcc.net
