Classic Bike (UK) - - XS1100 ROAD TEST -

This XS1100 is part of owner Paul Brace’s ‘Proper Bikes’ collection. A professional engineer who is a director of Eagle Cars, the highly regarded Jaguar E-type specialists, Paul is also an accomplished rally driver and has been around bikes since his youth. Proper Bikes is his personal selection of bikes that inspire, impress and move him, but occasionally he’ll sell a bike to make way for the next addition to the collection.

The XS1100 is one of the machines he would be prepared to part with. “I’ve owned it for about four years,” he explains. “I can’t remember who I bought it from and I can’t really recall being that aware of XS1100S back in the day. But I was intrigued to find out what they were like once I started growing my collection of ’70s bikes. Now I think it’s definitely one of the iconic bikes of its era.

“The engine is storming – there’s so much torque. I’ve ridden it to work a few times, but you could ride it anywhere. It’s still a very practical machine, though it does feel like a big lump.”

If it’s your sort of big lump, Paul could be tempted to move it on for £6950.
