Around 400 Egli Honda were built between 1971 and 1984. Thomas’s bike was built in 1979 and he bought it a year later. He’s been riding, tuning and tweaking it ever since. The current spec includes an 836cc big bore, forged 10.5:1 Arias pistons, a stage 1 Yoshimura camshaft, 33mm Mikuni flatslide carbs and an Egli four-into-two-into-one exhaust. Larger valves and a ported head complete the transformation to 96bhp at 9500rpm. There are Egli forks and magnesium wheels, with details including a magnesium CR copy alternator cover and a Bimota HB1 seat. Will he sell it? “Never,” Thomas grins. I wouldn’t either.
