A trip to the Barber

Serious metal, serious money at US sale

-

Bonhams first sale in conjunction with the Barber Vintage Festival proved a rip-roaring success, with 115 bikes on offer selling for a total just short of $1.5 million (£1.15 million). Helping that total along in no small way was the stunning 1928 Windhoff Four we previewed in our October issue. The wonderful ohc machine soared above its $150,000 top estimate to make a staggering $230,500 (£176,395) – a world record for the marque and a price which made it joint best performer in the sale. There were plenty more great prices achieved. The very original 1974 Ducati 750SS pictured above made a commendable $137,000 (£104,976) and a 1936 Brough Superior SS80 sold well above top estimate of $100,000 at $115,000 (£88,119).

All in all, an excellent result for their first sale at the Barber Festival – and surely one that Bonhams will be hoping to repeat next year.
