Owners: Barry and Daniel Jones

LEICESTER-BORN brothers Barry and Daniel Jones are at Uttoxeter with two of a collection of bikes they share. This is an early duplex-framed, 1961 model and they’ve also brought along their BSA Rocket 3. The duplex frame was the first major change for the Bonneville, which makes this an important milestone in its development and it’s a superb example.

Barry has always fancied a Bonneville and this one turned up at a H&H auction in November 2017 as part of a deceased estate sale. “It was pretty much as you see it now,” says Barry, who rode up from Thatcham, Berkshire, on the bike.

“It wasn’t running when we bought it, but there wasn’t a lot wrong with it. The previous owner was an engineer and all his bikes in the sale were of a pretty high standard. We just had to go through it thoroughly before getting it back on the road. Between us, we’ve done about 600 miles on it now.

“We’re hoping to make some useful contacts here before riding over to see our parents and heading home – dad’s the one who got us into bikes in the first place and he still lives near Leicester. We’re both hoping to be back for the Bonneville’s 70th anniversary.”
