MICK’S BIKE brings the Bonneville story bang up to date. With the UK getting just 59 of these limited edition models, Mick has got his hands on a future classic. His orange and pearl grey machine is the full-fat 1200cc version of Hinckley’s Bonneville and was a 65th birthday present to himself earlier this year. “I started on a Triumph and I’ll end on a Triumph,” says the Surrey TOMCC member, who rode the 171 miles to Uttoxeter from his home in Tadworth on Friday. Mick bought his first bike, a Triumph TR25W, in 1970 and he has owned nine Triumphs – out of a total of 49 machines – since then. “When the Spirit of ’59 edition came out, I just had to have one. I was a member of the 59 Club back in 1970 and just about caught the end of the rocker thing.”
Mick’s bike is immaculate. “I spent four hours cleaning this before coming here,” he admits.
