Craig Lee from South Yorkshire (right) celebrated Christmas with the news that he had won a brand new, old stock 1977 850cc Norton Commando, the top prize in the 2020 National Motorcycle Museum’s ‘Covid-19 Raffle Appeal Draw’.

Phil Sherratt from Staffordshire won runnerup prize of a 1948 Ariel NN 350 while Mr Sewart from Cornwall won the third prize of a 1959 350cc BSA B31.

The draw was a vitally important revenue source to the museum as it was forced to close its doors at the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic in March and has not been able to open since. Museum Director James Hewing stated: “All the team at the museum want to thank everyone who has given to our first Covid-19 raffle. As promised, the funds raised are being used directly for the purpose of reopening the museum for a limited number of days.” The museum aims to reopen as soon as current restrictions are lifted. Hewing added: “We plan to initially reopen the museum collection and shop every Saturday and Sunday; whilst the funds raised so far will allow us to reopen in a limited way, as of late 2020 we had still only raised 33% of our original £500k reopening target. Therefore, we’re undertaking a further ‘Museum Triumph Over Adversity Recovery Appeal Raffle’. The prize draw will take place on June 25 at The National Motorcycle Museum. Tickets cost £6 each and can be purchased online at thenmm.co.uk Top prize is a brand new 2021 Triumph Trident 660 motorcycle. The runner-up prize is a 1978 750cc Triumph Trident T160 and third prize is 1956 500cc Triumph Tiger T100. Hewing said: “I can only emphasise how important these raffles have become to our business; this new ‘Triumph Over Adversity’ raffle and appeal is pretty much our only source of income for the early part of 2021, so the public’s support for it is more important to us than ever.”

The ‘Museum Triumph Over Adversity Recovery Appeal Raffle’ is in addition to the Museum’s annual winter raffle which, this year, also has a Triumph motorcycle as top prize – a new old stock 1979 Triumph T140D Bonneville Special which has never been run or registered, and is showing just 11 ‘push’ miles!

The prize draw for the winter raffle will take place on April 25 at The International Classic Motorcycle Show, Stafford. Tickets cost £2 each, purchased online at thenmm.co.uk

The museum has recently been forced to sell off some of its surplus bike stock at auction to provide further income. Enthusiasts are also invited to make donations to the museum.
