Another member of the BSA works team was David Aldana, riding a 1970-spec ‘Highboy’ works Rocket III. Better known as a dirt tacker back then, he had scored a shock victory for the team in the 1970 Talladega 200 miles. He would later become a leading road racer with Norton and Suzuki works teams – and raced the hubcentre-steered Elf in World Endurance races.
