Although there were no works Hondas in 1971, the marque was ably represented by Ronnie Krause, the longest-established Honda dealer in Pennsylvania who fielded a yellow-liveried, Yoshimura-prepped CB750 for Gary Fisher. An up-and-coming protégé of Gary Nixon, Fisher had the fastest bike on the banking and shocked the establishment by leading the star-studded grid for ten laps until the cam chain snapped.
