IGNITION

The 1974 750SS has coil ignition, but all the subsequent SS variants have some form of electronic ignition. Prior to 1978, Ducati’s own, fairly woeful ignition system was fitted before they saw the light and fitted a Bosch unit for 1978. The advance curve of the early Ducati system was so fierce, it undoubtedly contributed to the rash of crank failures that afflicted many early 900s. It’s a good idea to fit a modern replacement like the Elektronik Sachse system.
