Classic Bike (UK)

Rocking up at Huggys Since starting their weekly ride-ins (every Wednesday and the first Saturday of the month) a few months ago, a growing number of classic riders are embracing the Huggy’s experience. We met a few when we visited on a glorious, sunny We

Diane Allsop, 1974 Honda CB350F

Diane made the short hop over from her home in Leicester with her new (to her) Honda four. “I bought it at the end of August,” she reveals. “It was pretty much in this condition when I bought it. I just had to refit the original handlebars and headlight. “We’ve been coming down Huggy’s for the last seven weeks. We usually call in at Hoar Park, near Coventry first – they have a classic bike meet there, too – and then head down here. There’s always something to look at.”

Kim Barrows, 1972 Kawasaki H2

“This is my first time here and I’m impressed,” Kim announces. “I only heard about Huggy’s while I was at a show in Hinckley a few weeks ago. There are some nice bikes here – and a good crowd. I’ll be back.” Kim is here on the Kawasaki triple he first bought way back in 1974. “I sold it in 1989, but found it again and bought it back from triple specialist Rick Brett in 2008,” he explains. “It had got a bit tatty by then, so I’ve rebuilt the engine, powder coated the frame and rechromed a few bits.”

Nigel Woodthorpe, 1951 Triumph Thunderbird

Nigel’s delightfully patinated Thunderbird looks and sounds a treat. And well it might, as the engine has been rebuilt, with a reground crank, new rods and Daytona-type main bearing shells, by the late great Triumph marque expert Hughie Hancox. “I’ve had the bike for 25 years,” laughs Nigel. “And I still haven’t finished it. I’ve recently discovered Huggy’s, and with eight other Triumphs to ride, I imagine I’ll be down here fairly regularly.”
